Changing the Way I See My Children
Through my coaching and consultation sessions with the Children of Life platform, I discovered that a child is the product of my own behaviour — stressed or not — and that in the early years they are a sponge.
I came to understand that a child is not being stubborn — they are simply trying to understand and to explore. Give them their space, and look at their questions from a completely different angle: from love, understanding and discovery, not as though they were pressuring you. See it through the lens of intelligence and awareness. When you are irritated, it is you who is irritated by your children… because they are genuinely a joy, not an extra responsibility, and not a burden standing between you and what you want. On the contrary, they are the greatest blessing and provision God has granted you. They are the very thing that keeps you moving and getting things done. See it as a joy rather than a duty, and you will find that we are the ones who need them. We live our loveliest moments with their laughter, their innocence, their spontaneity. Hold them, take them in, understand them properly, and give them your attention and your time — especially when they need you. They will not always say so; you are the one who senses it. Gather them for a special time you all enjoy together, and it will make an enormous difference to your relationship with them.
You do not have to be a perfect mother. What matters far more is being present with them, beside them — understanding them, and letting them understand you.
